Sevilla sporting director Monchi is keen on a deal for Aston Villa midfielder Carles Gil, reports Estadio Deportivo.

The Spanish midfielder endured a difficult year at Villa Park last season as they were relegated to the Championship.

He is expected to leave the club in the summer transfer window, with his agent recently confirming to El Desmarque that La Liga side Celta Vigo have already been in contact about a potential move.

And they may not be the only ones interested in bringing him back to Spain, with Estadio Deportivo claiming that Europa League winners Sevilla are also weighing up a potential move.

They are set to lose veteran right-winger Jose Antonio Reyes this summer, and Gil could be a replacement for him.

According to the report, Sporting Director Monchi believes the player would be a decent signing for the club this summer.

It is not a belief that is shared though, with manager Unai Emery unsure if Gil is of the quality they need, instead believing that the player would be better suited to a team of lesser stature than Sevilla.
