Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is willing to sell striker Aleksandar Mitrovic to raise funds for the summer transfer window, reports the Daily Star.

The striker endured a difficult first season at Newcastle as they were relegated from the Premier League.

He quickly became a fan favourite at the club though, bagging nine goals in 35 games in the league, finishing as their second highest goalscorer behind Georginio Wijnaldum.

However, it seems his stay at St James Park may be a short one, with Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon reportedly eyeing a move for him this summer.

Indeed, the player has also responded to the rumours by saying it is good to see his name linked to a big club such as Sporting.

And it seems that manager Rafa Benitez is willing to sanction an exit, according to the Daily Star, in order to generate funds to overhaul his squad for the Championship.

So far a fee has not been named, but the Magpies would surely be keen to at least recoup the £13million they paid Anderlecht for the 21-year-old’s services last summer.
