Southampton and Everton are in talks over Ronald Koeman, according to BBC Sport.

It has been reported that Everton want to appoint Koeman as their new manager following the departure of Roberto Martinez just before the end of the 2015-16 season.

The Dutchman has been in charge of the Saints since the summer of 2014 and has a contract until June 2017, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

BBC Sport claims that Koeman's agent has confirmed that talks are underway between the two clubs. However, according to the report, Koeman has not yet spoken to Everton.

It seems that Everton are trying to reach some sort of an agreement with Premier League rivals Southampton.

If the Toffees are able to convince the Saints to release the Dutchman out of his contract, they will then have to convince him to take the managerial job at Goodison Park.

Everton endured a disappointing 2015-16 Premier League campaign and did not even finish in the top 10.

The Saints will feature in the group stage of the Europa League next season, and it will be interesting to see what Koeman decides regarding his future.
