Newcastle United have taken up an option to extend the defender's deal by two years.

Newcastle United defender Kevin Mbabu has taken to social networking site Twitter to share his delight at the news he will be staying at the club.
The defender was confirmed to be staying at Newcastle on Friday, as they announced their list of retained players for next season.

The club have taken up the opportunity to extend the 21-year-olds contract for an additional two years after he made his breakthrough in the first team this past season.
He was joined by several other youngsters in signing new deals as the likes of Macaulay Gillesphey, Liam Smith and Tom Heardman all signed professional terms.
Mbabu was clearly delighted to agree a new deal too as he reacted on Twitter to the news.

The youngster will now be hoping he can play a big part as they get set to compete in the Championship next season.
The club are expected to be challengers under Rafa Benitez as they look to make an instant return to the Premier League.
Mbabu will be keen to play a part of that, and it will be interesting to see if Benitez turns to him in what is likely to be a much changed defence.
