John Brown also backed new Rangers signing Joey Barton to be a success for the Ibrox outfit in the Scottish Premiership.
John Brown has told The Daily Mail that Rangers need to make defensive reinforcements in the summer transfer window.
The Rangers legend has also praised the Gers’ signing of former Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton.
The Gers have recruited the Englishman on a free transfer and will expect him to play a key role in the team’s quest to do well in the Scottish Premiership during the 2016-17 season.
Brown believes that the presence of Barton in the team would help Andy Halliday and Jason Holt.
The former Hamilton Academical, Dundee and Rangers star has also said that manager Mark Warburton needs to sign a defender in the summer transfer window.
“He’s experienced enough,” Brown told The Daily Mail. “Guys like Joey read situations and see the game and I think he’ll be a big help for (Andy) Halliday and (Jason) Holt in the middle of the park."
“That’s an area I look at having been a defender,” added the former Rangers defender. “I do think they need to tighten up.”
Rangers played brilliant football in the Scottish Championship this past season, but defensively they showed vulnerability.
The Gers will be aiming to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title next season, and for that they have to be stronger defensively.
