Breel Embolo is likely to leave Basel in the summer transfer window, the Swiss club’s sporting director has told Goal.com.
"It’s very probable that he’ll leave this summer,” Georg Heitz told Goal.com. "He’s played for three seasons in our first team and he's just 19-year-old.
“At some point we have to accept that we cannot change our league. The players love our club but realise they have to change their league at some point to develop.”
"There are only two countries he could go to: England or Germany,” added Heitz. “I’d recommend him not to make too big a step. He’s intelligent enough to know he needs to go to a place where the coach gives him a chance."
According to a report in The Sun in May, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Embolo from Basel in the summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old is one of the most talented and most promising young strikers in Europe and was in good form for Basel this past season.
A switch to Tottenham would be a good move for the Switzerland international striker. Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino has shown that he loves working with talented and hungry youngsters.
One problem that Embolo could face at Tottenham is that he may not play regularly, not initially anyway.
England international star Harry Kane is the North London outfit’s first-choice striker, and Pochettino is unlikely to play two upfront next season.
Would Embolo be open to playing second fiddle to Kane? Would the youngster be willing to wait for his chances at White Hart Lane?
