Blackburn Rovers confirmed yesterday that Owen Coyle has been installed as manager of the club and the appointment has most certainly proven to be a surprising one.
Understandably, Blackburn fans are not too excited regarding the arrival of Coyle due to his previous links with fierce rivals Burnley and Bolton Wanderers, while many are not too impressed by his recent record in management.
One Blackburn fan, David Gresty, has been left so incensed by the appointment of Coyle that he has taken up the trouble to set up an online petition on Change.org demanding the departure of the 49-year-old.
“Owen Coyle has done NOTHING to even warrant an interview for the well paid and respected job of Blackburn Rovers manager. Please remove him from his position as soon as possible to prevent further damage to this historic club.”
The petition has earned 529 supporters already and while such a campaign is unlikely to make the Blackburn hierarchy revert their decision, it epitomizes the unhappiness of the Rovers’ faithful regarding another questionable management decision.
While Coyle did guide Burnley to promotion into the Premier League back in 2009, his time at Bolton, Wigan and Houston Dynamo proved to be unmitigated disasters and he certainly has a huge job on his hands at Ewood Park.
