Liverpool's Joe Gomez during a press conference
Rodgers was appointed Celtic's new boss last month, and whilst he will be wanting to evaluate the squad at his disposal right now, he will also be looking to bring in some new signings ahead of the Champions League qualifiers.
Celtic - Brendan Rodgers Press Conference
Defence was an issue for Celtic last season with injuries to Jozo Simunovic and dips in form for Dedryck Boyata, and it seems that Rodgers has a target in mind to solve that problem.
The Scottish Sun report that Rodgers is hoping to do a deal with former club Liverpool to reunite with teenage defender Joe Gomez in Glasgow.

The 19-year-old England youth international joined Liverpool from Charlton Athletic last summer, as Rodgers swooped to land him on a five-year contract - and despite his inexperience, Rodgers immediately thrust him into Premier League action at left back.
Gomez impressed with mature displays, but a serious knee injury in October cut his season short, and Rodgers is looking to work with him again.

Capable of playing all across the back four, Gomez would be a smart signing for Celtic in a loan deal, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believed to be happy to send the youngster out on loan.
However, any deal would be on the condition that the loan is only for six months, as Klopp would want him back in the Liverpool squad for the second half of the season, once he has got back up to match speed at Celtic - and that may cause Rodgers to think twice as he looks to build his Bhoys side this summer.
