The Tottenham Hotspur star is being linked with a return to Serie A.
The Argentine international struggled to adapt to English football but last season was a real breakthrough for the 24-year-old, and he ended the campaign with 11 goals and 10 assists in 44 appearances.
A string of superb performances, and some match-turning displays, suggested Lamela has a big role to play at White Hart Lane in the years ahead. However with just two years left on his remaining contract it will be interesting to see what this summer has in store.
If Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing alternatives, now would be the ideal time to sell Lamela and recoup some of their sizeable outlay on the wide man.
According to Corriere Dello Sport, Inter manager Roberto Mancini will ask the club’s new Chinese owners to sanction moves for Lamela, Yaya Toure, Alex Teixeira and Arkadiusz Milik, but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is a canny negotiator and will not do a deal unless it is in the club’s best interests.
There is no doubt other options are out there that would be considerably better than Lamela – most notably Henrikh Mkhitaryan – but whether Tottenham can replace one with the other remains to be seen.
Still, if it is time to move Lamela on it seems there is interest from the country where he made his name.
