Portsmouth are lining up a move for Northampton Town midfielder Danny Rose, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Rose spent the end of last season at Northampton after joining the club on a free transfer from Oxford United.

The 28-year-old helped Northampton win promotion to League One, scoring one goal in 15 games as the Cobblers secured the League Two title.

Rose, who signed a short-term deal until the end of the season upon his arrival at Northampton, has been offered a new deal to stay at Sixfields.

However, Portsmouth are hoping to lure Rose away from Northampton by taking him to Fratton Park for next season.

Portsmouth are ready to offer the former Fleetwood man a long-term deal to persuade him to give up the chance of playing in League One next season to stay in League Two instead.
