HITC Sport understands Northampton Town are set to land the Coventry defender.

Northampton Town are poised to sign Coventry City defender Aaron Phillips on a free transfer, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Full-back Phillips is a free agent after seeing out his contract at Coventry this summer and he has not been offered a new deal.

The 22-year-old, the son of former Wales international Dave Phillips, came through the ranks at Coventry and made over 60 appearances for the Sky Blues during his 14-year association with the club.

A number of clubs have expressed an interest in Phillips, but League One new boys Northampton Town are in pole position to land Phillips.

New Northampton Town boss Rob Page is keen to bolster his side as he prepares his side life in League One next season.

Page is a big admirer of attacking right-back Phillips and sees him as a valuable addition to his side at Sixfields for next season.

Northampton are set to offer Phillips a three-year deal to make the move to Sixfields as Page looks to make him his first signing since taking over from Chris Wilder.
