HITC Sport understands Blackburn poised to name former Burnley boss as new manager.

Owen Coyle - Wigan Athletic Manager

Blackburn Rovers are set to name former Burnley boss Owen Coyle as their new manager, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Coyle is available for the role after leaving Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo last month.

The 49-year-old opted to leave Houston Dynamo as he wanted to return to England to be closer to his family.

Blackburn have moved quickly to swoop for Coyle as they look for a replacement for Paul Lambert after he left Ewood Park at the end of this season.

A number of names, including Manchester United Under-21 boss Warren Joyce and former Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish have been linked with the job at Blackburn, but it seems Coyle is the preferred choice of the club's owners Venky's.

Coyle boasts a wealth of managerial experience with the Scot managing both Falkirk and St Johnstone before making the move to England.

Coyle guided Blackburn's bitter rivals Burnley to the Premier League before leaving to take over at Bolton Wanderers and his last job before his move to America was a disappointing spell at Wigan Athletic.
