New Leeds United manager Garry Monk has been speaking to West Yorkshire Sport following his appointment at the club.

The former Swansea City boss replaces Steve Evans at the helm and he was quick to his praise the players he will be adopting, which is not surprising considering the quality at Elland Road right now.

Leeds finished 13th in the Championship last season and while that ultimately proved disappointing to many, the club went on a fine run under Evans and possess some of the best young talent in the second tier.

Speaking about his new players, Monk said, “I’m already very impressed with the squad that we have. We have had discussions about players that are already here. Keeping your best players here is paramount.

“Look at the players the club already has; they have an opportunity to be part of a real positive future.”

With the likes of Lewis Cook, Charlie Taylor, Lewie Coyle and Alex Mowatt on Leeds’ books, the future looks bright; but it is up to Monk to mould those youngsters while also getting the best out of the more experienced players.

If he can do that, and make solid additions, there is every chance he could do what owner Massimo Cellino craves and take Leeds into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
