Speaking to Celtic's official website, manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Rangers fans have received him well so far, but jokes that they may not be as friendly when the Scottish Premiership season kicks off.

The Northern Irishman was named as Ronny Deila's successor on the green half of Glasgow last week in what looks a huge statement of intent by Celtic's board.

This time two years ago, Rodgers was hurting after his Liverpool side came within a point of lifting the Premier League title, but he was sacked by the Reds in October as his three-year stint on Merseyside came to an end.

Of course, the 43-year-old must now relocate to Scotland. If he moves to Glasgow, he will share a city with Rangers supporters as the Gers gear up for a top-flight return, following a four-year absence.

Given the animosity between both Glasgow clubs, Rodgers might find himself in awkward public situations with Rangers fans away from football, but the former Swansea City boss says they have been very nice to far.

"Both sets of supporters, Celtic and Rangers, have come up to me and been very, very supportive. But I'm sure when the competition starts it might be different," he joked to Celtic's official website

Rangers currently boast the bragging rights between both Old Firm outfits after eliminating Celtic from the Scottish Cup semi-finals this past season, on penalties.

It was arguably the result which meant Deila - who won two Premiership titles - was not going to be kept on, with a poor Champions League record doing him no favours either.
