Just days after guiding United to their first FA Cup title in 12 years, van Gaal was unceremoniously sacked as manager.
The manner with which United handled the departure of van Gaal was very harsh but one could argue that the Dutchman deserved to be shown the door, as the Red Devils clearly under-performed in the Premier League as well as the Champions League last season.
However, Tottenham star Dembele has gone on to slam United for their decision to dispense with the services of the 64-year-old.
Dembele worked closely with van Gaal at Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar a couple of years ago and he certainly shares a strong relationship with the Dutch manager.
Now the Belgian international has gone on to speak regarding van Gaal’s exit from Old Trafford and has stated that he has been left baffled by the Premier League side’s decision to let his former manager go.
He told Derniere Heure, "Louis van Gaal was the manager of a Premier League opponent, and he’s just been sacked, but I can’t say a bad word about him.
"He taught me a lot at AZ - his trainings, his style of play, his way of motivating us, he was a great. I guess he hasn’t changed. Nevertheless, he suffered a difficult season at Manchester United.
"For me, that’s (United’s decision) baffling, but that’s football and if I’m the footballer I am today, it’s partly thanks to Van Gaal."
