Newcastle United defender Fabricio Coloccini has been discussing leaving the club once again - and fans appear happy to let him go.

The Argentine told homeland radio station Closs Continental, quoted by the Chronicle: "I want to return to Argentine football. I have one more year of contract but due to the club’s decline Newcastle now have another project. If there is a chance to return, the priority will be San Lorenzo."

Coloccini is 34 and has one year left on his deal. He lost his place in the team during the run in, and did not feature under Rafa Benitez.

He is by default still the club captain, but it appears perhaps that he does not have the appetite to lead the team for another campaign.

Coloccini has now been relegated with two different Newcastle sides, and at this stage of his career is unlikely to improve, or stand a chance of playing all 46 Championship games.

Chancel Mbemba and Jamaaal Lascelles are better, more hungry players, who the club would be better off putting their trust in.
