Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has told supporters that the club will shake off their recent playoff final defeat and return with the intention of going all the way next season, the Sheffield Star report.

The Owls came within one match of a long-awaited return to the Premier League but they were ultimately beaten by the better side on the day, going down 1-0 to Hull City at Wembley.

The club will no doubt be disappointed with defeat, yet they have so much to be proud of following their best season this side of the millennium and owner Chansiri suggests to fans they will come back stronger.

“This season, we came within one match of reaching the Premier League, which is arguably the pinnacle of the game. So right now, I am hurting and so sorry that we could not take that final step and end our 16-year exile from the top flight,” Chansiri told the Sheffield Star.

“But be assured of one thing – Sheffield Wednesday will be back. We will shake off this hurt, regroup over the summer and return with the intention of going all the way next season.”

“And as your chairman, I pledge I will do everything I possibly can to ensure we do exactly that.”

The Owls enjoyed a terrific campaign both on and off the field, and they can take plenty of positives despite their Wembley defeat as the club are on a clear path to a return to the top-flight.

Wembley arguably taught Wednesday that they are not quite ready for the Premier League, yet they aren’t too far away either and boss Carlos Carvalhal will know where to improve the squad this summer.

With a few more additions and the growing belief around Hillsborough, there is no reason why the Yorkshire club can’t challenge for automatic promotion next term.
