Liverpool are looking at early business, but what areas are in real need?

Three new faces will be at the club in time for pre-season so far, and there's little doubt there's room for more.

Many will have welcomed Liverpool's first act of business since the season concluded in the signing of Loris Karius from Mainz for £4.7 million last week.

A goalkeeper has been high on the priority of Liverpool fans and judging by the early business undertaken by Jurgen Klopp, it was high on his after three seasons of Simon Mignolet guarding the Reds goal - and not all of the time has that been successful. In fact, a lot of it has been pretty poor and seen many lose patience with the Belgian.

The signings of Joel Matip and Marko Grujic were secured during the season and they will arrive in the summer. There are still areas of the side that need addressing.

Many will call for a new left-back as Alberto Moreno demonstrated his unreliability in the role - notably in the Europa League final, while a lack of a commanding presence in the middle of the park seems to be something the Reds need to address.

There is plenty of potential within this Liverpool side - with Emre Can a notable example of a player who has improved at the heart of the side as the season has gone on.

What Liverpool have lacked as well as the edge to close big games out like recent cup finals is the sense of presence. There hasn't been the big midfielder to rough up the opposition and grind things out, nor the reliance.

Some would also suggest the need for a new striker, but even if Christian Benteke is sold - something which looks increasingly likely - then Klopp will feel he has four forwards at his disposal in Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino.

Of course, there is always a desire to add to the side in terms of goalscoring, but that could come from another attacking midfielder rather than someone who is more accustomed to leading the line.

It feels the squad could do with a lift in terms of one player, than gradually building the side by addressing certain problem areas of the field. Liverpool need some steel, some presence and some reliability.
