Southampton's Shane Long scores
Long, 29, was seen as a questionable signing for Southampton back in the summer of 2014, with BBC Sport reporting that the Saints forked out a huge £12m to land him from Hull City.
Shane Long scores for Southampton
With just seven goals in all competitions last season, Southampton's decision to spend so much money on the Irishman seemed like a poor one - but they have reaped the rewards this past season.
Having hit 13 goals this time around, Long has impressed under Ronald Koeman, and with ten Premier League goals, he has enjoyed his best season as a top flight player.

Now though, Long appears to be attracting interest. His pace, work rate and aerial ability have caught the eye of Premier League rivals, with The Mirror reporting that Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has an interest in signing Long.
Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp - who allegedly failed in a move for Long in January - is also believed to be a big fan of Long, prompting a response from Southampton.

After such a strong season, Long will feel that he has earned his new deal - and once that is signed, he can focus on impressing for the Republic of Ireland at this summer's European Championships.
