Newly promoted Middlesbrough are considering a swoop for Bordeaux midfielder Clement Chantome, according to a report from Foot Mercato.
Middlesbrough are back in the Premier League following an eight-year absence and one can be sure that manager Aitor Karanka will be looking to do all he can to keep Boro in the English top flight for the foreseeable future.
In order to do so Karanka will in all probability have to strengthen his squad over the summer and Middlesbrough have already moved quickly to secure the services of Viktor Fischer from Ajax Amsterdam.
Now according to a report from Foot Mercato, Karanka is looking to further bolster his midfield with the signing of Chantome.
Chantome is currently plying his trade for Bordeaux but is widely expected to leave the Ligue 1 club this summer as he has not yet signed an extension to his current deal which will expire in June.
A move to England has been widely touted for Chantome and it has been claimed that Middlesbrough are ready to make their move to sign the French international.
Chantome is a vastly experienced midfielder, having made close to 300 career appearances in the French top flight, and the 28-year-old could prove to be a good signing for Boro; especially on a free transfer.
