According to The Sun, Sunderland and Stoke City are battling it out for Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic - and personal terms have already been discussed with his agents.

Subotic, 27, is a favourite of current Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, having not only worked under him at Mainz, but also followed him to Dortmund back in 2008.

The Serbian international centre back, who stands at 6ft 3in, became a key part of the Dortmund side under Klopp, forming a superb partnership with Mats Hummels as Dortmund not only won two successive Bundesliga titles, but also reach the Champions League final in 2013.

However, Subotic has suffered from injuries recently, and played just 11 times this past season as Hummels and Sokratis Papastathopoulos have become Dortmund's first-choice pairing.

Now - despite Hummels signing for Bayern Munich - Subotic could be on his way out, as The Sun report that Sunderland and Stoke City are lining up bold moves to bring him to the Premier League.

It's believed that Subotic's representatives have already met with both clubs to discuss personal terms before the Premier League sides try to agree a deal with Dortmund.

The report adds that the two teams are looking at cut-price deals or season-long loan moves for Subotic, given the injury problems he's been having over the last year - but Liverpool and Klopp have turned down the chance to sign him this summer.
