Tottenham Hotspur have today announced that they will be playing their games in the Champions League next season at Wembley Stadium.

The club have agreed the move for next season’s competition as they are in the process of building a new stadium next to the current White Hart Lane ground.

With that in mind they have agreed the deal to move in at Wembley for next season, whilst also agreeing a deal to play all their home games at the stadium throughout the 2017-18 campaign – with White Hart Lane no longer in use.

Daniel Levy spoke of the move, as reported by the BBC, and explained how it will benefit the thousands of fans currently on the season ticket waiting list at Spurs:

"Our season ticket waiting list is over 50,000 so this now also offers us a great opportunity to provide more of our supporters with a chance to see the team play live during our Champions League campaign.

"Importantly, as we know it was our fans' preference, it means that we can play our home matches in London during our season away."

Of course it means Spurs will be playing their home fixtures in the Champions League on the other side of London from next season – but considering the options this is perhaps the best Spurs could have wished for.

Overall the reaction on Twitter has been positive. Many would have liked to stay at the Lane but prefer the Wembley option to the previously mooted idea of heading to Milton Keynes.
