Boro are looking to strengthen their squad this summer after earning promotion to the Premier League.

Exciting winger Viktor Fischer has already joined the club from Ajax, and now boss Aitor Karanka is seemingly targeting his defence as he looks to bulk up at centre-back.

Daniel Ayala will no doubt start the campaign as a first-team regular, yet alongside him there is room for improvement and Reims’ impressive captain Mandi looks to fit the profile.

The 24-year-old made 32 Ligue 1 appearances for Reims this past season, enjoying an impressive individual campaign as he averaged 3.4 interceptions and five effective clearances per league encounter.

The report goes on to say that both St Etienne and Malaga are expected to make formal bids for the defender, while Boro aren’t put off by Reims price tag which may represent somewhat of a bargain.

Mandi has made 18 caps for Algeria and featured for his nation in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
