Liverpool are very close to securing a deal for Empoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski, according to Italian news outlet Il Messaggero.

Liverpool have long been linked with the Polish star, with a move looking extremely likely when he was pictured in a Liverpool shirt.

No deal has been concluded as yet, with his agent recently commenting to Forza Roma that the move was close to collapsing.

Indeed, there was also suggestions that they could miss out on him as several Serie A sides entered the race for his signature.

However, it now appears the Liverpool have made a decision and il Messaggero are reporting that they have returned to complete a deal for Zielinski.

According to them, the two parties are very close to completing the transfer after the Reds went away to mull over a move for the Polish star.

Should he end up at Anfield, he would become their fourth signing of the summer, with Loris Karius, Joel Matip and Marko Grujic already having agreed to moves.

They will have to move quickly to secure him though, with the same report claiming that both Napoli and Roma are also keeping track of the situation.
