The Englishman had been without a managerial job since the summer of 2015 when he parted company with Leicester City.
Former Tottenham and Leicester striker Lineker has backed Derby’s decision to make Pearson their new manager.
The former England international has also made a reference to Pearson’s ostrich remarks back in April 2015.
During a post-match press conference, the former Hull City boss accused a journalist of being an ostrich and burying his head in the sand, as reported by The Guardian at the time (click here to read more).
Sorry, I've had my head in the sand all day so missed the news that Nigel Pearson is the new boss at Derby. Excellent appointment.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) May 27, 2016
Derby are one of the biggest clubs of England, and Pearson has been appointed in order to guide the Rams back to the Premier League.
It will not be easy given the competitive nature of the Championship, but the Derby fans should be optimistic about a successful 2016-17 campaign.
