Crystal Palace have opened talks with Queens Park Rangers over defender Steven Caulker, reports the Guardian.

The defender is expected to leave QPR this summer as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink oversees something of an overhaul of his playing squad.

He spent last season out on loan with Southampton and Liverpool, but managed just one Premier League start in a highly disappointing campaign.

He is keen to kick-start his career at a new club in the top flight and QPR are happy to listen to offers for the centre back.

According to the Guardian they are seeking around £6.5million for Caulker, and there is already interest in his signature.

That comes from Crystal Palace, who have opened negotiations with Hasselbaink’s side about a potential transfer.

The Eagles view the defender as a long-term partner for current star Scott Dann in the heart of their defence and have clearly not been put off by several disappointing years for Caulker.

Manager Alan Pardew is keen to add to his squad this summer and is eyeing three or four signings, with Caulker potentially among them.
