Newcastle United are expected to be active in the summer transfer window.
Newcastle have already been linked with the likes of Steven Caulker, Lee Tomlin and Ross McCormack since they have dropped down to the second tier.
And Benitez has suggested that Newcastle could look to sign players with knowledge of what it takes to get out of the Championship.
“Good players,” he said, when asked who Newcastle will target in the summer.
“That means good players for us.
“That means maybe it will be a Premier League player, maybe it will be a Championship player, because you need experience and character.
“Maybe it’s a young player with quality. I will not say that we will just bring this kind of player. We can bring anyone if it’s good enough for us.”
Benitez’s commitment to staying on is a major boost for Newcastle, and they head into the new campaign as the favourites to be promoted.
The Spanish boss is expected to take Newcastle back to the Premier League quickly.
As part of Benitez’s terms of staying on, he has been given full control over Newcastle’s transfers.
Benitez will be allowed to pick which players join St. James’ Park this summer, as he looks to assemble a squad capable of bouncing back.
Benitez has also been told that he is not under any pressure to sell any of Newcastle’s key players, meaning he may not have to find too many replacements.
