Barton has signed for Scottish giants Rangers on a free transfer after leaving Premier League-bound Burnley.
The former Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers man is a very good footballer who is going to add more bite to the Gers’ midfield.
The 33-year-old English midfielder has got himself sent off in his career on a number of occasions, and many observers will wonder if he could lose his head while playing for Rangers against Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Former Newcastle and Rangers defender Bernard believes that Barton will not lose his temper against the Bhoys.
The Frenchman has also compared the former Manchester City man to Celtic and Scotland international midfielder Scott Brown.
“In terms of his own game, I think he still has a lot to offer,” Bernard told The Scottish Sun about Barton. “He will be up there with the very best players in Scotland, like Scott Brown, because he has the engine and the knowledge.
“People say he has a bad character, but he’s a very clever lad, especially on the pitch. I have no doubt he will do well for Rangers.”
“Joey is bound to be looking forward to the Old Firm because it is one of football’s greatest games,” added Bernard. “Everyone will be expecting him to lose it when he plays Celtic, but I think he will be able to stay calm.”
Barton is a very good footballer, and in recent years he has shown that he can restrain himself on the pitch.
The Englishman is very passionate about his game, but he will certainly prove to be important for Rangers when they take on Crltic in the Scottish Premiership next season.
