The Frenchman has been without a managerial job since January 2016 when he was dismissed by Ligue 1 outfit Rennes

Montanier started his professional managerial career at Boulogne in 2004, before taking charge of Valenciennes in 2011.

The 51-year-old is a good manager, but many will question whether he has the knowledge or the expertise to manage in the Championship.

Perhaps Forest are looking at Montanier as a long-term appointment, allowing him to build a team that can earn promotion to the Premier League in the coming two or three years.

Forest fans have taken to Twitter to have their say on the speculation that Montanier could become the new first-team manager.
