The Rams had been without a permanent manager following the sacking of Paul Clement last February, with academy manager Darren Wassall taking over first-team duties until the end of the 2015-16 season.
Despite boasting one of the best squads in the Championship, Derby failed to earn promotion in disappointing fashion for the third straight season after they were eliminated by Hull City in the playoff semi-finals.
Mel Morris has heavily backed the club since becoming owner, and he had a big decision to make as he searched for the correct manager which falls in line with his ‘Derby Way’ vision.
Pearson arrives with a good pedigree, having achieved promotion with Leicester City in the 2013-14 campaign and preserving the club’s Premier League status against the odds the following season.
The former Hull City manager is responsible for bringing in a number of players who then went on to help Leicester claim the title during the 2015-16 campaign, such as Jame Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and Danny Drinkwater.
Derby have a wealth of talent, but it will be interesting to see whether Pearson chops and changes the squad as his sides predominantly speed and directness over possession (a key element of Derby’s game).
Pearson's anticipated appointment may have caused some raise questions as a result of his Leicester ties, but most Derby fans on social media site Twitter have reacted positively to the announcement.

Pearson is the right move. This team has the quality, it needs motivation and balls. He should provide that in spades. #dcfc— Luke Flood (@thatgumyouliked) May 27, 2016
