Tottenham Hotspur scout and consultant David Pleat has told Sky Sports that Spurs will add a couple of new signings this summer - and they need to find some proven talent.

Spurs launched a shock bid for the Premier League title this past season, and whilst they suffered a mini-slump to end the campaign, they did still finish third, achieving qualification for the Champions League.

To compete in Europe's elite competition as well as challenge in the Premier League, Tottenham need to add some new faces this summer, with a number of positions needing some attention.

Another centre back may be required to compete with Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Kevin Wimmer, whilst options are needing in midfield behind Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele, and attacking reinforcements out wide and up front are also required.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, Tottenham scout and consultant David Pleat - the man who identified Spurs star Dele Alli as a player that the club simply had to sign from MK Dons - has been asked about Tottenham's transfer plans for this summer.

Pleat has told Sky Sports that he thinks Tottenham will add to their squad with a couple of new signings, and backed them to gamble on more young talent like Alli if the opportunity presents itself.

Pleat added that whilst Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will be searching for 'young, hungry players with a good attitude', there may be scope for some proven players to be brought in too, much like the deal last summer for Toby Alderweireld.

"Next year they will continue to improve, and they'll add a couple of players to it," said Pleat. "It's a balance. If they feel they can get the right player to do a certain job they will look at all sorts of things. They won't say, 'Well because he's this age, we can't possibly sign him', but they will still look for young, hungry players with a good attitude because that is what the manager likes."

"They can take a gamble. They did because they backed me with Dele Alli. So they will do if they can find one that's very good value. But, generally speaking, they've got to find players that have got some pedigree and already proven themselves at a decent level," he added.
