Tottenham Hotspur have recently been linked with a move for FC Basel striker Breel Donald Embolo.

The Sun reported that Spurs were preparing a £20 million move for the player, with the 19-year-old considered one of European football’s top young talents.

FC Basel president Bernhard Heusler then insisted that Tottenham Hotspur had not made any move for their star striker - telling Blick:

"I cannot confirm that (Spurs have bid for Embolo). From Tottenham no offer exists, and there is currently no indication that Breel’ s path leads in this direction.

“It is one of many rumors that are currently scattered. "

Now it is looking increasingly likely that Tottenham will not be signing him at all, but rather he will be heading to Germany in a surprise switch to RB Leipzig.

Bild report today that the Swiss striker and his representatives have decided that Leipzig is the right destination for him as he will play plenty of first-team football in the Bundesliga.

The club, who came second in the 2. Bundesliga last season, have vast resources due to their association with the Red Bull brand and would be able to afford Embolo quite easily.

This will certainly come as a blow to any Tottenham fan who was excited about the possibility of Embolo at White Hart Lane.

Spurs need striking reinforcements to help back up Harry Kane – but it appears Embolo has no desire to be anyone’s backup. A move to Leipzig would certainly prove that.
