However, ESPN feel that the relatively low-profile Braga coach Fonseca is amongst a list of potential candidates.

Everton have been tracking Fonseca’s progress in Portugal, and they had representatives at Braga’s cup final against Porto, which they won.

That success was Braga’s first Portuguese cup win in 50 years, and it enhanced Fonseca’s reputation, but he is not widely known outside Portugal.

Fonseca has a brief spell in charge of Porto earlier in his career, and he has also taken charge of Pacos Ferreira.

Fonseca’s name has not featured in Everton’s search for a new manager before, with more established managers generally linked.

Everton have also been tipped to be looking at the likes of Manuel Pellegrini, David Moyes and Frank De Boer, as they search for Roberto Martinez’s replacement.
