Former Queens Park Rangers and Rotherham United manager Neil Warnock said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (broadcast from 6am, May 26) that Darrell Clarke should not take the Leeds United job.

Clarke, in charge of Bristol Rovers at the moment, has been linked with the Leeds managerial job.

The 38-year-old got Rovers promoted from League Two to League One at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

Steve Evans is in charge of Leeds at the moment, but his current contract with the West Yorkshire outfit runs out at the end of next month.

According to The Bristol Post, Leeds chairman Massimo Cellino wants to appoint Clarke as the club’s head coach for next season.

Former Leeds boss Warnock has warned the Rovers manager against accepting Cellino’s offer.

“I am not sure I would recommend him going to Leeds as the next stage of his career, if I am honest,” said Warnock on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (broadcast from 6am, May 26).

“I think, the turmoil at the moment with the fans, it would be very, very difficult for a young manager to go in there and not just turn the team around, but get everybody on side.”

Leeds are one of the biggest clubs in England, but they have not played in the Premier League since 2004.

The Whites have become also-rans in the Championship in recent seasons, but perhaps next season will be different and the club will challenge for a top-six finish in the table.
