USA national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann has told MLSsoccer.com that he was impressed with Brad Guzan’s performance against Ecuador this week.

Guzman featured in the USA’s 1-0 victory over Ecuador in a friendly international on Wednesday.

Klinsmann, a former Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich player, was impressed with the performance of the Aston Villa goalkeeper in the win.

“Confidence means everything to every player, especially as a goalkeeper,” Klinsmann told MLSSoccer.com. “As a goalkeeper, if you concede goals, you get blamed.

"And if you make mistakes, you cannot make many mistakes. So it’s a good feeling for Brad that he started this period now positively.”

“It’ll take him a couple of days to shake off the entire season they played in Europe or Mexico,” added the former Tottenham star. “They went through a lot of games for a long grind, so now just to detach themselves from what was a very tough one for Brad with Aston Villa - give him a few days to just leave that aside and grow into his team here and into Copa America.”

Guzan endured a disappointing 2015-16 Premier League campaign, as Villa got relegated to the Championship.

The former Chivas USA goalkeeper, who has been on the books of the Villans since 2008, himself struggled to play to the best of his ability.

The 31-year-old American kept two clean sheets in 28 Premier League appearances for Villa this past season. Guzan made 2.43 saves per game and 1.24 saves per goal on average for the Villans.

Villa will find it tough to succeed in the Championship next season, as it is a very hard and physical league.

There are a lot of big clubs in the division, such as Newcastle United, Derby County, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.
