Former Everton and Aston Villa striker Andy Gray has told Sport360.com that expectations at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp were over the top this past season.

Klopp was appointed the Liverpool manager in October 2015 following the departure of Brendan Rodgers.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss is one of the best football managers in the world, and fans and former Liverpool players alike were excited at the appointment of the German.

Liverpool reached the finals of the League Cup and the Europa League this past season, but they failed to win either.

The Merseyside outfit ended up eighth in the Premier League table and will have no European football next season.

Gray has rated Liverpool’s 2015-16 Premier League campaign as 5, and believes that expectations under Klopp have been over the top.

“Jurgen Klopp has done some good things since replacing Brendan Rodgers but the expectancy that arrived with him has been a little bit OTT,” Gray told Sport360.com. “There’s something to build on but a long way to go. 5.”

Liverpool could have done better in the Premier League than they did under Klopp, and that needs to be rectified next season.

However, overall the Reds’ 2015-16 campaign has been a success, as they reached the finals of the League Cup and the Europa League.

The Merseyside outfit will probably be aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League next season.
