According to France Football via Get French Football News, Everton have made an enquiry for Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

The report claims that the current Villarreal loanee has attracted plenty of interest ahead of the summer, including an offer from AS Roma and an enquiry from Everton who seek a new number one.

The Toffees are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer following long-standing number one Tim Howard’s impending switch to MLS side Colorado Rapids.

The Merseyside club are expected to have a busy summer ahead, with their first priority being finding the right man to succeed the recently sacked manager Roberto Martinez.

The club have plenty of money to spend following the majority share takeover from Farhad Moshiri, and it appears both a new goalkeeper and defender are high on the list of likely additions.

Areola, 23, is considered a top prospect in Paris yet he has struggled to make any inroads with the French champions, spending the past three seasons out on loan.

His latest spell at Villarreal only enhanced his progression as a top prospect, and his strong performances earned him a place in France’s senior squad ahead of the European Championships.

Everton are said to have enquired about his services, though they face strong competition with Italian side Roma making an official offer as they also seek a top quality goalkeeper this summer.

The Toffees have the money and the vision to attract him, yet they must be quick with competition high.
