AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has confirmed to Gazzetta World that striker Mario Balotelli will be returning to Liverpool next season.

Balotelli has been on loan at Milan since last summer, with Liverpool letting him go after a disappointing first season at Anfield.

He had been hoping to revive his career at the San Siro by helping to lead them back into Europe.

It has not worked out that way though, as he has managed just one goal in 20 appearances all season, with them missing out on the Champions League and the Europa League.

That has left Milan less than impressed, and it seems they will not be making his move a permanent one in the summer, as Berlusconi has confirmed the player will be leaving

“There will be several departures as the likes of Alex, [Philippe] Mexes, [Kevin-Prince] Boateng and Balotelli all have deals that will expire,” Berlusconi confirmed to Gazzetta World.

It will now be interesting to see what Liverpool will do with Balotelli next season.

Reports have indicated that manager Jurgen Klopp has no plans for him in his squad, although finding a buyer is likely to prove difficult given how poor he has been in recent years.
