The Bayern Munich defender will have a huge part to play if Austria are to make it out of the group stages.
David Alaba – Austria – Will face Hungary, Portugal and Iceland
HITC Sport writers have compiled a list of the top 50 players at Euro 2016, assessing players from across the 24 countries taking part at this summer's tournament.
Coming in at number 17 is Austria and Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, arguably one of the best defenders in the world.
International Record 44 caps, 11 goals
2015/16 – It was another impressive season for Alaba as he continued as Bayern Munich’s first choice left-back.
There was success to be had too, as Bayern won yet another Bundesliga title and added the German Cup to see Pep Guardiola’s reign end on a high before he moved on to Manchester City.
That took Alaba’s trophy tally to 14 with the German giants, with him firmly established among the world’s best defenders.
What can we expect?
Given his status in the game, Alaba will be a huge player for Austria in this summer’s tournament in France.
The Austrians are largely unfancied, but were near perfect in qualifying as they won nine of their ten games and drew the other one.
They could be a surprise package and will fancy their chances of getting through in a group containing Hungary, Portugal and Iceland.
If they are to do so, they will need Alaba and the likes of Marko Arnautovic to be at the top of their game.
