According to the Telegraph, Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is aiming to complete his first signing before the start of Euro 2016.
Benitez’s stay at Newcastle is expected to be confirmed later today, dispelling initial fears that he could have departed after relegation.
It was originally expected that Benitez would leave Newcastle if they dropped down into the Championship, but he has been won over by the Tynesiders.
Benitez is now set to try and guide Newcastle straight back from relegation, and he will have funds to spend.
Benitez has been given assurances that he will have full control over transfers, and he is wasting no time.
The Spaniard has reportedly already been drawing up transfer targets, and he plans to set about bringing them to St. James’ Park quickly.
Benitez wants to have at least one new signing made at Newcastle in the next two weeks, as he attempts to build a squad capable of immediate promotion from the Championship.
Newcastle have been linked with the likes of Ross McCormack, Lee Tomlin and Steven Caulker so far this summer.
