Sunderland midfielder Liam Bridcutt still wants to sign on at Leeds United permanently, according to the Chronicle Live.

They report that the Black Cats midfielder’s preference for next season is to make a switch to Elland Road but that the deal remains up in the air.

The report suggests a move away from Wearside is likely this summer, but that Leeds as a destination is still far from certain.

Bridcutt enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Leeds last season. He joined the club from Sunderland in November last year and his loan was extended until the end of the season at the start of January.

The move was a successful one. He played 24 times for Leeds and helped improve their results in the second-half of the Championship campaign. His form also saw him recalled to the Scotland national set-up – after three years in the international wilderness – for a friendly with Denmark in March.

Bridcutt may want the Leeds move and it is common knowledge that current Leeds boss Steve Evans also wants him in permanently. However, what is not known is whether Evans will be in charge at Leeds next season – with the uncertainty over the coaching role at Elland Road surely not helping matters regarding this deal.

But it seems as though Bridcutt is keen on remaining at Leeds and whoever is managing the club next season should surely try to make that deal concrete.
