Swedish International John Guidetti has had an excellent season for Spanish overachievers Celta Vigo
Celta Vigo's John Guidetti is wanted by Swansea
Former Manchester City and Celtic striker John Guidetti could well be on his way back to the UK according to Swedish media outlet Expressen, who have said that Swansea City have made a bid for the forward.
It was reported earlier in the week by AS that Celta Vigo have received and accepted an offer for the Swedish international, although it was unclear who the offer originated from.
But according to the Swedish media it appears that Swansea City are Guidetti’s potential suitors.
Guidetti has come into his own in Spain, and despite only making 19 starts out of 43 appearances, he has managed to score 12 goals to help his side finish an impressive sixth in La Liga.
Guidetti was once tipped for great things and was picked up by Sven-Goran Eriksson when he was manager of Manchester City back in 2008.
But he failed to establish himself in the North West, and he was carted out on numerous loans including to Stoke City and more recently to Celtic, where he made 24 appearances.
After his loan spell in Scotland he was told he would be surplus to requirements at the Etihad, and following his release last summer he was picked up by Celta, a move that has revitalised his career.
Guidetti will play for Sweden in this summer's European Championships
He has scored vital goals including one of four that the Sky Blues put past Barcelona in an historic 4-1 win, as well as grabbing the winner in their Copa Del Rey quarter-final against Atletico Madrid, sending Celta into the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in 15 years.
He is also set to accompany legendary forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front for Sweden at this summer's European Championships in France.
Swans manager Francesco Guidolin, who was recently given a contract extension at the Liberty stadium having guided the club comfortably to safety, is thought to be interested in bolstering his front line, having lost Éder during the week to a permanent deal with French side Lille.
The Portuguese’s departure puts the onus on Andre Ayew and Bafetimbi Gomis in front of goal, and with Ayew linked with moves away from South Wales and Gomis struggling to make an impact in front of goal, it appears that Guidolin is prepared to explore alternative options.
And Guidetti has certainly now been marked out as a potential target.
Manchester City's Wilfried Bony could be on his way back to Swansea
The Italian coach has also been linked with former Swans striker Wilfried Bony, whose switch to Manchester City has not be a resounding success, playing second fiddle to Sergio Aguero and more recently Kelechi iheanacho.
And with new boss Guardiola set to take over the reins at the Etihad, it looks increasingly like the Ivorian may have to search for pastures new.
