According to major Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport, Inter Milan gave a 'resounding no' to West Ham's approach for striker Mauro Icardi.

The Argentina international, 23, was on the books at Vecindario as a child before signing for Barcelona at the of 14, though he was restricted to the Under-19's with the Catalan side.

After joining Sampdoria - and hitting 11 goals in 33 games - Icardi earned another big move, joining Inter Milan in 2013, and he has continued to grow and develop since his big move to the San Siro.

Icardi not only smashed 16 goals this season, but has now taken his tally to 52 goals in 102 games for Inter, winning one cap for the Argentina national team in the process.

Now though, Icardi's exploits appear to have attracted interest, with The Mirror reporting earlier this month that West Ham were interested in bringing the striker to the Olympic Stadium this summer.

However, major Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport report that whilst West Ham did make an approach for the forward, Inter responded with a 'resounding no', as they intend to keep Icardi at the San Siro long-term.

That means that West Ham now need to turn their attentions elsewhere, with Icardi seemingly no longer an option as the Hammers look to splash their cash on a new goalscorer this summer.

Who do you think West Ham should target after their failed move for Icardi?
