A goalkeeper that doesn't get talked about much could be a goalkeeper that has put in a solid season, with very few errors.
Simon Mignolet has been the man who has occupied the first choice position for the past three seasons now, but given the errors that have happened during the Belgian's time as Liverpool's goalkeeper, many wanted an improvement. There were simply too many times that he made costly errors.
Karius has been handed the number one jersey upon his arrival. Some will suggest that is an indication that Jurgen Klopp will make the 22-year-old his first choice 'keeper from the start of the season in August, although the party line from the club may be that he has been brought in to compete with Mignolet.
But if Karius is the number one from the start of next season, he will do well to be one of the least talked about players in a year's time. Whenever a goalkeeper gets talked about, you can bet that on most occasions it is for the wrong reasons - a shot they should have saved or a fumble that proves costly.
Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp
As detailed in this piece earlier on in the week, there were too many errors that led to goals attached to Mignolet, hence he was talked about so much. Liverpool will be hoping that Karius makes better decisions, does not drop many clangers and starts to become a reliable last line of defence for the Reds that saves them points rather than costs them.
The case is usually that goalkeepers are talked about far more if they are making errors that are costly than if they are just being solid and reliable. If little is being said about Karius, and he has had a pretty satisfactory 12 months at Anfield by this time next year, plenty of people will take that.
