Darko Milanic was not the first promising manager to see his career derailed by being fired by Massimo Cellino, and may not be the last.

After last night he is back on track, steering Maribor to victory in the Slovenian Cup Final.

Milanic's side won in a penalty shootout against NK Celje, just months since being appointed by the club for a second time.

Milanic was hired by Leeds owner Massimo Cellino in the early part of the 2014/15 season, after surprise summer appointment Dave Hockaday was sacked after four games.

It took just six games for the impatient Italian to fire Milanic, with the team drawing three and losing three of his opening matches.

Milanic remained on gardening leave for the entirety of 2015 after his sacking in late 2014, and took over at Maribor earlier this year.

It was at Maribor that he made his name in management, winning four Slovenian titles and three Slovenian cups, before leaving for Austrian side Sturm Graz.

Back in his comfort zone he has now won a fourth domestic cup, and just perhaps, he could have enjoyed success at Elland Road if given time and backing.
