Andy Gray has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 25th May, that he joked with Joey Barton over text after he joined Glasgow Rangers, suggesting that the midfielder was finally joining a good club.
Barton moved to Ibrox yesterday, signing a two-year contract at Rangers - after his deal at Burnley expired.
Barton’s arrival at Rangers has created great excitement around the Glasgow giants, and he is expected to be a key player in the upcoming season.
And Gray said: “I text Joey Barton yesterday and said ‘it’s about time you joined a good club, Joey’.
“It’ll be interesting in the Old-Firm Derby. What are the odds on Joey Barton and Scott Brown being sent off within the first 20 minutes?”
Barton was made one of Mark Warburton’s priority targets for Rangers this transfer window.
The 33-year-old adds a great deal of experience of Rangers’ young squad, and he should be a steadying influence on the rest of the team.
Barton is Rangers’ fourth addition of the summer transfer window so far, following the arrivals of Matt Crooks, Josh Windass and Jordan Rossiter.
Rangers are expected to continue to invest over the coming months, as Warburton looks to build a squad capable of competing in the Scottish Premiership.
