Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has suggested on that Jose Mourinho could bring Gary Neville with him to Manchester United.

United have sacked Louis van Gaal as their manager after two years following the team’s failure to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.

According to BBC Sport, former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss Mourinho will succeed Van Gaal at Old Trafford.

Collymore has claimed that Mourinho could bring United legend and former Valencia head coach Gary Neville with him to Old Trafford.

“As you’d expect me to do, I’ve tried to dig away at some of the people close to Mourinho to see what and who may be wrapped around The Special One when he walks through the hallowed Old Trafford doors and from four different people, two very close to Mourinho, one name keeps popping up,” Collymore wrote on

“Gary Neville. Mourinho likes him, respected his move to a tough Valencia job and feels he has way more credibility with United fans than the romantic option of Ryan Giggs.”

England coach Gary Neville

Neville was a failure at Valencia, but he is one of the best football analysts in the world. The former England international is a United legend and knows the club inside out.

It would be a great move of Mourinho to make Neville his assistant manager or a first-team coach. The question is whether the Englishman would be willing to take a step down in his managerial career, having been the head coach of a club as big and historic as Valencia.
