Carr is set to leave the club this summer, with Rafa Benitez’s appointment as their permanent manager likely to see him depart.
His exit will bring an end to what has been an interesting period at the club, in which they become renowned for securing French talent.
The captures of the likes of Yohan Cabaye proved to be inspired, although a number since then have turned out to be expensive flops for the club.
However, it transpires that Carr had advised the club to sign several French stars who have since gone on to play at the highest level of the game.
“Carr had urged moves for Blaise Matuidi and Kevin Gameiro”, the Chronicle report claims.
“He told them to pay what was required to get Raphael Varane before Real Madrid consolidated their interest and turned him into one of the best defenders on the planet.”
This latest news will hardly please the Newcastle faithful, who have had to put up with a number of poor signings in recent years.
Their relegation to the Championship this past season has largely been blamed on their inability to make good acquisitions in the transfer window.
Indeed, had they pulled off any of those signings that were allegedly recommended to them by Carr, there is every chance they would not find themselves in their current situation.
