Nigel Pearson could snub the Aston Villa job, according to reports.
According to the Daily Star, Nigel Pearson could reject the chance to manage Aston Villa after learning he was only their third choice for the job.
Villa are searching for a new manager after parting company with Remi Garde back in March, with interim boss Eric Black taking charge until the end of the season.
Now, with the season over and relegation to the Championship confirmed, Villa need a new boss - but they suffered a major setback on Monday afternoon.
As reported by BBC Sport, Villa's first choice for the job, David Moyes, took the weekend to consider a move, and ultimately chose to reject Villa's approach.
With the Scot now out of the running, Villa need to look elsewhere - and they could receive another huge blow, with a top target also believed to be thinking twice about the job.
The Daily Star report that whilst Villa are interested in Nigel Pearson, the former Leicester boss is prepared to reject the job having learned that he was only third choice for the role.
Former Leicester City boss has been out of work since leaving the King Power Stadium last summer, and with a Championship title to his name from 2014, he has the track record - as well as the no-nonsense nature - that Villa desperately need as they prepare for life in the second tier.
However, Pearson has learned that he is only the third choice for the job behind the aforementioned Moyes as well as former Chelsea and West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo.
Such a stance may be a power play from Pearson to force Villa to make him their first choice, but if the reports are true, Pearson may be making Villa's decision for them by bowing out of the race, much likes Moyes has already done this week.
Do you think Pearson should be Villa's first choice?
