Brentford are lining up a move for Oxford United midfielder John Lundstram after his impressive debut season at the club last term, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Lundstrum caught the eye for Oxford last season after joining the club on a free transfer from Everton last summer.

The former England Under-20 international came through the ranks at Everton, but never made a first-team appearances for the Goodison Park side.

Lundstrum had loan spells at Doncaster, Yeovil, Leyton Orient, Blackpool and Scunthorpe during his time at Everton before deciding last summer to leave the club on a permanent basis.

The 22-year-old made 47 appearances in all competitions for Oxford as he helped them win promotion from League Two.

Lundstram's impressive performances have not gone unnoticed among clubs higher up the football pyramid and Oxford could face a fight to keep hold of the player this summer.

Brentford have been keeping tabs on Lundstrum for some time and they are ready to firm up their interest with a bid for the player.

Oxford will be reluctant to lose Lundstrum as they prepare for life in League One next season with the midfielder establishing himself as a key member of Michael Appleton's side.
